Disappearing HUDs

I've attached a HUD but I can't see it.

If you WEAR a new HUD straight away it will usually appear correctly as it will automatically attach to the point selected by the HUD's creator. If, however, you attach it to a different HUD attachment point it may appear to be missing. This happens because HUD attachment points have different co-ordinates and 'remember' the position and rotation of the last HUD worn there. This can cause problems with any HUD if you change attachment points.

So.... what do I do?

DON'T PANIC!!! The HUD is there but may be off the screen or is rotated. To fix this you will need to edit its position and/or its rotation. Here's how..........

Step 1

Press CTRL ALT T to display transparent objects. Look for the red outline of the HUD on your screen. The pic on the right shows what a transparent HUD looks like. It's the red rectangle towards the top right of the screenshot.

Step 2 - If you can see the HUD now:

  • right-click on the HUD and choose Edit to open the Edit dialogue
  • EITHER: press CTRL and rotate the HUD using the visual Edit controls
  • OR: click on the Objects tab and alter the Rotation values at the bottom left of the Edit dialogue.

Step 3 If you can't see the HUD :

If you can't see the HUD the chances are it's offscreen. Luckily it's possible to reduce the size of the HUD window so that you can see HUDs that are outside it. The HUD window is the rectangular area outlined by the thin white line in the image opposite. The selected HUD is outside this window and would be invisible on your normal screen.

  • right-click on any HUD which is visible
  • pull the scroll wheel on your mouse towards you (if you don't have a scroll mouse hold down Alt + left mouse button and drag your mouse towards you) to reduce the size of the HUD window until the HUD becomes visible.
  • right-click on the HUD you want to recover - it should already be in Edit mode
  • drag the HUD using the edit arrows until it is inside the HUD window.
  • rotate the HUD if necessary using the instructions in Step 2
  • close the Edit window

If you do need to edit the HUD position you will only need to do this once if you continue to use the same attachment point.
If you use a different attachment point it might go AWOL again!

It's worth noting that some HUDs are scripted in such a way that they will always appear onscreen whatever you do.
